July 2024 is the hottest month I have ever experienced since I arrived in Canada in 1976. On Saturday, July 20, Martin Gomez and I got up very early to walk the trail around the Fort Edmonton and John Janzen area. The early start was necessary to beat the heat, but even in the morning, the temperature was already high, and the sky was filled with smoke with the air quality at 10+!
Over the past 40 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph around 500 bird species worldwide. Unfortunately, I haven't taken many photos of birds in and around Edmonton. However, I've found great satisfaction in capturing a few species in various settings and lighting conditions. Here are a few locations I recommend exploring. Don't forget to bring a camera!
