When news of the blaze at Notre Dame de Paris shocked the world on April 15, 2019, we, like so many others, were stricken. People of various faiths felt deeply the loss of this iconic structure which for centuries had inspired and embodied the spiritual life. It was in the aftermath of this tragedy that I had the idea of assembling images of religious architecture in all its manifestations around the world. Our travels have taken us to many countries, so it has not been difficult to find photos for the project! Some of the photos date back to 1977 when Sheila traveled all through the Middle East to Nepal. Most of the collection comes from our shared adventures since 1983, and some of the images I have had to scan from faded old photos. I hope you enjoy this look at monuments to the great faiths of the ages.
