For years, friends urged us to explore Mexico City – and this October, we finally went. Eight days gave us only a glimpse of its extraordinary richness, and we quickly wished we had planned for more. In no particular order, here are a few highlights that left a lasting impression: the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Museo Mural Diego Rivera, a colourful trajinera ride through the Xochimilco canals, the ancient city of Teotihuacán (the “city of the gods,” founded around 400 B.C.), and the stunning Museo Soumaya, home to Carlos Slim’s remarkable collection featuring works by Diego Rivera, Rodin, and numerous European masters. Our visit coincided with the annual Day of the Dead Festival!
